You've got my sympathies! Mine is finally over. Just to repeat again next month... don't you love being a girl?

Honestly, no. Not today. Ask me next week. Sigh. I'm thinking I'd be a LOT less crabby and tired if I could just not get the headache that lasts for days. That's what has done me in.

Boy, I'm right there with you. Mine started yesterday, but was preceded by a three day migraine (thank God for Relpax.) And the beauty is, I'm going to a three day conference in Savannah, GA, tomorrow. Nothing I hate worse than having my period while I'm traveling on business. Ugh.

I'll tell you what, though, when this is all said and done, God and I are having a serious talk. And it'll probably start off something like this: "What the F*CK were you thinking?!?"

P.S. Call your doctor and see if he/she will give you a prescription to Relpax. It really is a miracle drug when it comes to migraines. It's been my salvation.

I'd like to have my ear to the door when you and God have that conversation, Janet! Too funny.

I take Maxalt in the 10mg pills, and it seems to help...but it sucks having a monthly 5 day long headache that starts on day 3 every single period. Sucks the double, hairy, big one.

P.P.S. Also, one dose of Estroven Maximum Strength and two Advil per day also have "improved" the unpleasantness and pain of menstruating. You can find Estroven at your local drug store. Get the kind labeled as above and in the green box.

I put my sister on to Estroven about a year ago and she swears by it, as do I. She has especially difficult periods and she says Estroven has made all the difference for her.

Okay, enough, right?

Here is the shortest sentence ever with all those terms:

Period.

I can't believe I posted on this one.

Bishop, being a married man, you have every right to post on this one. Don't be ashamed! BTW, your short sentence is pretty damn funny!

Mary Lisa and others suffering migraines. Have you considered going to a chiropractor? My mother suffers the week long migraines. She finally listened and went to my chiropractor. Now she still gets migraines, but they are now manageable and no where near the length they'd been in the past.

Cele, I'm not sure if hormonal issues that cause my migraines would be helped by chiropractic methods. And I have work at exactly the same hours as chiropractors work....it's hard for me to leave work for stuff.

Not that I'd know anything about this, but...

Have you tried experimenting with increasing different kinds of nutrition around this problematic time? Perhaps it's taking something out of you that you end up short on.

The first, and easiest, is water. Tried ramping up water intake around that time? (If it isn't clear, drink more dear).

Extra protein? Iron? (Snacking on peanuts, raisins, etc)

Maybe consult some nutritional information to figure out some healthy ideas for boosting various types of nutrition -- one at a time, until you notice some difference.

My bet would be water. It seems counterintuitive with the water retention and bloating, but that's all the more reason why you might need even more water because it's all being deposited somewhere besides where it needs to go and maybe you're coming up short.

I don't really know what I'm talking about here, just trying to help. I do know that I used to suffer from very long migraine headaches myself -- I've had them last for over a week at a time (no break, migraine 24x7 for days on end). Focusing on my water intake and being able to tell how I was doing on hydration was key for me.

I hope you find some way to get relief -- that really sucks. :(

Mattman, thanks for the ideas. I have heard that more water helps, and I really chug the water during this time of fun. I'm not noticing anything changing in the headache dept, but I know that water helps me feel like I've done something productive to try to help myself. Thanks for your help!
