Note to self:

Either
1. buy a smaller bag of potatoes next time, or
2. cook potatoes more often.

Potatoes stink when they are past their prime. Hope your kitchen aired quickly. :)

Hi Miranda! The amazing thing is, these potatoes don't stink at all. They just sat in a dark pantry thinking they were underground, hence the sprouts shooting upward. I removed them before they rotted.

It was fun to giggle over those crazy sprouts with my daughter, who had never seen that before.

Strange phobia, but I'm SO creeped out by sprouting potatoes that I can barely look at that picture. You should put a warning on your blog that you might have EXPLICIT POTATO PHOTOS.

*Shudder*

I will have to give you my recipe for potato salad. And my seasoned over fires too. Oh and my crispy potato fritters too. So many potato recipes and so little time.

lol. Those "over fires" are really oven fries. I think someone mixed up my keyboard keys. That's my story and Im sticking to it.

On the bright side, you have a head start on your potato garden! :D

Onions do that too if you leave them too long. :)

Don't ask me how I know.

At least they're still recognizable! I had an "incident" with a roommate and what appeared at one time to be a potato bag...that had turned to smelly mush.

I'm not sure which is funnier the picture or the comments.

Wry, sorry about the creep-out I gave you!

Mark, recipes always welcome. :)

Chanson, you made me lol with that comment. Yeah, that's me. I think my green thumb is slightly worse than my cooking skill (or lack thereof). F'reals.

Silly, I know this as well about onions, just didn't have a camera handy at the time. LMAO!

Pants, Eeeeew. I have seen that black mush before, and it is NASTY. Condolences.

Cele, I'd ship you these plantable potatoes, knowing you have a green thumb, but I'm afraid you just made fun of me. Didja?? Huh huh huh? ;)

Hmmm...how did you get into my pantry to take that picture??
I always have such good goals for a new bag of potatoes but they all too often end up looking a bit like those.
I think I'm going to go cook some potatoes tonight for dinner!

Maybe you should find a recipe for potato vodka for when they start going bad.
