Sweet

I have a large group of sparrows (I think...could be chickadees) living in the shrub at my work. I've noticed them lately as they hang out in the branches and chirp and such. One day I saw the cutest little footprints in the powdery snow beside my car, and wished I had had my camera there to capture the tracks.

Today when I arrived at work, I saw that someone had dumped a bunch of birdseed on the snowbank beside the shrub for the birds. My boss denies doing it, but I wonder if he is just trying to hide the soft spot he may have for the little flock of birds who chose to make their home here by us.

I can't deny those birds have made me happy on more than one occasion as I parked my car and just sat and watched them doing their bird thing and seeming so glad to be alive.

Wow! How I understand. As we sit here out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by 6 acres of blowing snow and below zero temps for the last 2 months, we have a robin that perches on a railing just outside our living room window. It gives us such hope of spring. How many times have you seen a robin in the dead of winter???

I wish I could get that much joy out of my wife's chickens.

Very cool!

I love sitting in my home office and looking out the window. There are two squirrels I call Roscoe and Bert who frolic around in the trees and make me happy.

And speaking of robins, I saw one the other day, too, and was AMAZED! I'm hoping it's a sign that spring is around the corner.

I just want to say that the sweetest little birds that hang around here, in the UK wintertime, are called...(wait for it)

Blue tits.

There are also coal tits, yellow tits and, I think, green tits but the name 'blue tit' cracks me up every time I hear it.

Oh yeah, I forgot that there's a 'Great tit', as well.

I too love to watch birds. I have this plexiglass feeder that suction-cups to my front window and I fill it with saflower seeds. The chikadees and the cardinals love it.

I love my new home because I have a lot of windows in my office. During the day there are a lot of birds, even in the winter, even today when it's 35 below zero wind chill.

But what I really love is that on the coldest days, right at dusk, the crows gather in the bare branches of all the trees on the block. So many, so loud, truly a murder of crows. And when they ruffle feathers or move around it sounds like the whole neighborhood is alive.

Enjoy your sparrows, they're fascinating to observe. Descendents of the dinosaurs - or at least that's the hypothesis I prefer.

CV Rick,

That reminds me of Hitchcock's movie "The Birds." :)

I love bird watching, it was something my father and I shared, I can watch birds for hours.

Lisa you might consider putting a birdfeeder outside your window, Chickadees will give you hours of companionship and entertainment.

The day I can look through the bay window at the bird sanctuary and yell out "look at those Great Tits!" will be a very good day, at which point I will be doing an hm-uk and SML happy dance.
