Uh-oh. . .

My sister called me today (the sister who lives near me in a different ward, who recently told her bishop she has issues with certain aspects of the church, yet still attends with her children and serves in the primary as a teacher). . . her bishop heard her concerns and told her he understood and to have faith etc. They also discussed me and the fact that I no longer believe the church is true.

Seems the stake executive secretary has called twice and left messages that the Stake President wants to see her. Part of me wonders if it's about her, or if it's about me.

This could get interesting.

I'm betting it's about her, but I am also betting you get thrown into the fray.

Is it OK to feel sorry for the SP? I mean, he may just be biting off more than he can chew. (;=>
Or would you go easy on him?

I had a similar uh-oh moment recently when the executive secretary asked for my wife and I to "come in". I declined to attend, but when my wife went, it turned out that they just wanted to give my wife a calling. I was a little disappointed there wasn't more drama. ;)

Cele, we shall see.

Malkie, I actually like my stake president. Very nice guy. But no, I don't feel sorry for them when they meddle in things that don't necessarily concern them.

Jonathan, you like drama, huh? Good to know... ;)

I think the SP got wind of your new avatar and wants to discuss that with your sister.

I know I want to discuss it with your sister :)

I wouldn't worry over it. They probably want to call her to be an in-town missionary so they can see f she can "show you the light." :)

it's probably nothing to worry about . . . but if they want you to go to see the stake president and his court quorum .. . DON'T GO!! I Speak From Experience.

If you do go, bring a cooler of beer and a lawnchair and tell them you thought it was an "event" . . . "Who's BBQing?" you'll ask.

BR, Funny. I'll see if she feels like discussing my avatar with you.

Dartman, could be. As I left the church you thought my worries were strange, but it seems you now realize it could happen. Ha.

CV Rick, yeah, I'm sure they'd love seeing me show up with beer cooler in hand. Then they'd know they were right about Satan having a hold on me.

Seriously, I don't think it matters who the SP wants to speak about. You will both be discussed in either case.

Hey, maybe this could end up in your favor in the end.

The good part to it all is.......
They can all blame it on me for divorcing your wonderful father and breaking up the family. We all know that is the root of all the EVIL!

Love you

I'm crossing my fingers that it is only about her... Good Luck!

I have declined several invitations from the Exec. Secretary. They have never pushed it.

But MANY years ago I had a meet & greet with my new SP when we moved in, and I can tell you that he was horrified to learn that I thought the temple ceremony was 'hard to believe'. He responded, nervously with "But you still believe in Jesus Christ don't you?". I replied yes, and it was all good from there on out.

So, my advice is to skip it, or if you attend, lie. I think they would prefer to hear you little white lies.

I disagree. Don't lie. The more you string them along, the more hope they have that they can reverse your zombie-like curse of disbelief.

They still try to send missionaries to me and I've been excommunicated. At first I was polite and respectful, but now I just say, "No. Please don't come see me anymore."

Polite and small untruths just make them linger like soulless bums at the dumpster of hypocrisy.

At least, your sister and you will soon be able to have a good party.

I read your post twice, and thought of Orwell the first time, and Kafka the second. To relieve the dark mood I then pulled up Python on You-Tube; "No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!"

I can only hope that your sis gets the "comfy chair."

Seriously though, I don't mean to make light of your concern, or your sister's. I well remember that sinking feeling as a teenager when the Bishop called me in for "a chat." If I could only go back to those meetings knowing what I know now. I see him now as just another nice man, preying on the ignorance of an adolescent, and a mixed up adolescent at that. My ignorance was the handle they used to move me about to their liking.

What is it about being asked to talk with the SP or the bishop that suddenly throws a member back to being 10 years old outside the school principal's office?
ARGH!

I got invited to "chat" just before I decided to resign, and I told him straight out,"If your best advice is read, study and pray, then anyone could do your job. I'm outta here."

I hate that he "might" use her to get to you though, that is so twisted and manipulative! It's none of his f'n business what you are doing or what you think!

I had a nosy bishop like that, and when I left he interviewed my mom and sister for 5-6 months trying to figure out what my "sins" were so he could justify my leaving.

Stupid damn cult. I wish I had never heard of it.

You could show up in your new habit and try to convert them to the Catholicism. Tell them you have found the true church and would like to save their souls.

Or bring a friend and some of the those Jehovah's Witness pamphlets and ask them if they would like to escape the devil's clutches.

Be strong Sister Mary Lisa. Tell those old bastards to go piss up a rope. Certainly they want you to return to the dark side. Tell them to kiss your Non-Morman ass.

I hope everything with your sister turned out okay!
